THE SITUATION
In the ever-evolving world of fashion and design, innovation and experimentation are paramount. Lenskart, a renowned eyewear brand, exemplifies these qualities by continually pushing the boundaries of creative collaboration.
This Halloween, Lenskart teamed up with Howie Kim, a Singapore-based visual artist celebrated for his eccentric and bizarre art style to create a daring eyewear capsule collection celebrating Halloween with a twist.
THE MOOD
Embracing the haunting spirit of Halloween, the Bongdirk’s Nightmare goes beyond the ordinary, drawing inspiration from Howie Kim's eccentric art style. We collaboratively delved into the project to explore the realms of macabre cinematography within Howie Kim's universe.
Drawing visual inspiration from the distinctive aesthetics of the Goosebumps series and the nostalgic appeal of Scooby-Doo, the campaign pays homage to those who grew up in the '90s. The film revolves around the portrayal of four eyewear pieces inspired by Halloween, for which four distinct 3D worlds were crafted. This approach creates a mood that is daring, nostalgic, and playfully eerie. The homage to '90s pop culture, combined with Howie Kim's bizarre art style, sets a tone that is both unconventional and intriguing.
OUTCOME
The animation, designed to seamlessly switch between products, incorporates slick camera movements for a cinematic feel. The sound design, featuring 80s-inspired horror synthwave music, further heightens the macabre moments, guiding viewers deeper into Howie Kim's world. This unique blend of nostalgia, macabre cinematography, and playful eeriness defines the mood of "Bongdirk’s Nightmare." It invites the audience into a surreal and whimsical journey, where Halloween becomes a canvas for unconventional creativity and expressive storytelling.
UNIVERSE OF BONGDIRK
Inspired by Howie Kim's iconic Bongdirk character and horror films, each frame is meticulously designed to capture the essence of Bongdirk’s greatest fears. The eyewear collection invites curious and daring beings to enter the alien-bear’s lucid trip into a dark and whimsical fantasy. Elements include knives through hearts, syringes, and the iconic Bongdirk character, creating a bizarre and spooky atmosphere.
Taking a dive into classic slasher films, where a deranged slasher villain crushes hearts. Bongdirk, in his nightmares, takes a knife through his heart, reflected through the temples of the Slasher eyewear.
Inspired by frightful scenes in horror films, Bongdirk’s fears are unlocked further as he is surrounded by floating eyeballs and gigantic snakes, trying to find his way out of his nightmare.
Entering a medical horror film scenario, portraying the fear of needles and deranged murderous doctors. Bongdirk finds himself trapped in the terrors of his greatest nightmare, strapped to a surgical table, with his head injected with mysterious red liquids.
Drawing inspiration from the well-known horror film "The Shining," Bongdirk encounters his eerie doppelgänger in the hallways, reminiscent of the Grady twins, inviting him to come and play.
